{"id":341,"date":"2025-12-25T23:32:18","date_gmt":"2025-12-25T12:32:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/securelang.net\/cms\/?p=341"},"modified":"2025-12-25T23:32:18","modified_gmt":"2025-12-25T12:32:18","slug":"some-big-little-changes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/securelang.net\/cms\/blog\/2025\/12\/25\/some-big-little-changes\/","title":{"rendered":"Some Big Little Changes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Coming In 1.0.2<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A 1.0.2 release is coming soon with a few changes moving towards a usable operating system:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The new shell program supports a <em>PATH<\/em> environment variable which is necessary for proper directory structure in future releases<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A port of <em>svi<\/em> vi-compatible text editor is working with a rough implementation of <em>curses<\/em>, though a bit slow<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An <em>ioctl<\/em> system call has been added especially for the curses backend to control console options<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The existing <em>kqueue1<\/em> &amp; <em>kevent<\/em> system calls are now mostly implemented ready for more complex I\/O, but these probably won&#8217;t be properly demonstrated until later<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <em>mkfs<\/em> program has been cleaned up slightly and can probably be included in a release soon (maybe with some kernel changes to allow formatting new ramdisks as a demonstration)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <em>ls<\/em> and <em>drives<\/em> commands have been improved slightly<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The 1.1 Release<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As most of the improvements planned for a 1.1 release have already been implemented as well as the kqueue implementation I will probably try to finish the rest of the kernel subsystems to a reasonable degree by 1.1 (so this means networking, containers &amp; the driver layer should all be demonstrable).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This will allow a 1.2 release to follow just focusing on usability improvements.
